myCOI is one of the original certificate of insurance tracking vendors, and for a lot of buyers it’s the first name they hear. It’s a legitimate product with a loyal customer base. But “first name you hear” and “right fit” aren’t the same thing, and the COI tracking market has changed a lot since myCOI defined it.
This guide walks through the six platforms most often shortlisted against myCOI, where each one is stronger or weaker, and how to run a demo that surfaces the differences. We build Billy, so we’ve kept every comparison to things you can verify in a trial.
Short version: myCOI’s strength is its concierge service, where licensed insurance professionals review certificates for you. Its trade-offs are review turnaround, integration depth beyond Procore, and a multi-industry design that isn’t optimized for project-based construction compliance. If you’re a GC on Procore and a construction ERP, Billy is the most direct alternative. If you want AI-first verification across many industries, look at TrustLayer. If you want another long-tenured managed service, bcs.
What myCOI does well
- Managed review. The concierge tier puts human insurance expertise on every certificate. For teams with no compliance coordinator, that’s the whole value.
- Automated communication. Renewal requests and deficiency notices go out on a schedule without your team touching them.
- Procore integration. Compliance status syncs into Procore, including Procore Pay’s insurance compliance module.
- Breadth. Construction, real estate, education, and other verticals are all supported, which matters if you manage COIs across different kinds of vendors.
Where buyers look for alternatives
The reasons people search for myCOI competitors cluster around four themes. Whether they apply to you depends on your setup.
- Review turnaround. Managed review means a queue. When a sub needs to mobilize tomorrow, waiting on a review can hold up the project.
- ERP integration. myCOI’s flagship integration is Procore. If your payment run happens in Sage 300, Sage Intacct, CMiC, Viewpoint Vista, or JD Edwards, you’ll want compliance status there too.
- Project-based requirements. Construction contracts vary by owner and trade. Buyers want requirement groups per project, not one portfolio standard.
- Modern self-service. Teams with their own compliance coordinator often want faster, AI-assisted review they control, with the managed option as a fallback rather than the default.
myCOI competitors, compared
Billy
Best for: general contractors who want fast review, Procore plus ERP integration, and payment enforcement
- AI Review Assistant checks limits, dates, and endorsement wording against project-level requirements in minutes; managed plan available when you want a team doing follow-up
- No login for subs or brokers to upload; tracks COIs, W-9s, licenses, hold harmless agreements, and custom documents
- Native Procore (with side panel), Autodesk, CMiC, Sage 300, Sage Intacct, JD Edwards, Viewpoint Vista, ProjectSight, Acumatica, and DocuSign integrations
- Payment holds through Procore Pay and accounting systems
- Subcontractor prequalification and the Insurance Wallet for subs in the same platform
Trade-off: construction-first. If most of your vendors are tenants or non-construction suppliers, myCOI’s breadth may fit better.
TrustLayer
Best for: AI-driven verification across many vendor categories
- Automated document extraction and verification with strong AI positioning
- Multi-industry: construction, real estate, franchising, and more; Procore integration
Trade-off: primarily self-service; construction ERP integrations and payment holds are less central.
bcs
Best for: buyers who like the managed-service model and want a second long-tenured option to compare
- Human review team plus AI extraction; operating since the 2000s
- Project-specific requirements; Procore integration
Trade-off: same managed-queue dynamics as myCOI; self-service experience is less modern.
Constrafor
Best for: GCs adopting Constrafor’s procurement and subcontractor early-pay platform
- COI tracking as a module with an AI review assistant
Trade-off: you’re buying a platform, not just compliance.
PINS Advantage
Best for: Procore-centric teams that want a straightforward tracker
- COI tracking with a Procore integration; multi-industry
Trade-off: limited ERP reach and prequalification.
Jones
Best for: commercial real estate owners rather than builders
- Tenant and vendor COI tracking for CRE portfolios
Trade-off: not designed for project-based construction compliance.

How to run the demo
Feature lists won’t separate these platforms. A messy certificate will. Bring the same COI to every demo and ask each vendor to review it live against one of your actual project requirement sets. Choose one with:
- A per-policy aggregate where your contract requires per-project
- A “Y” in the ADDL INSD column with no endorsement form attached
- A primary and non-contributory requirement that isn’t mentioned anywhere on the certificate
- A policy expiring within 30 days
Then ask two questions: how long until your team sees the result, and what happens in your accounting system if the sub is still non-compliant on Thursday’s payment run.
Frequently asked questions
Who are myCOI’s main competitors?
The platforms most often compared with myCOI are Billy, TrustLayer, bcs, Constrafor, PINS Advantage, and, for real estate, Jones. Which one fits depends on whether you’re in construction and whether you want AI-first or managed review.
Does myCOI integrate with Procore?
Yes. myCOI syncs compliance status into Procore and Procore Pay’s insurance compliance module. Its integrations with construction accounting systems are more limited.
What’s the main difference between myCOI and Billy?
myCOI leads with a human concierge review service across many industries. Billy is built for construction, reviews certificates with AI in minutes, integrates natively with Procore and construction ERPs, and holds payments for non-compliant subs. Both offer managed options.
Can I switch from myCOI without re-collecting every certificate?
Usually. Export your vendor list, current certificates, and expiration dates, and import them into the new platform. Most vendors will help migrate; Billy’s onboarding syncs vendors from Procore or your ERP directly.
